It’s NAIDOC Week, a time to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
NAIDOC celebrations are held across the nation in July each year. The week began with an official Opening Ceremony and will run until Sunday, July 9.
This year’s theme, For our Elders, is a recognition of the contribution of elders past and present in communities and families.
First Nation Engineering (FNE) is an incorporated private company established by the Carey Group and CPC Engineering, companies with a vision for a sustainable business with Indigenous participation and the capability to deliver design, construction and maintenance services in the mining, energy, infrastructure and agriculture sectors.
FNE Chairman and Carey founder Daniel Tucker, a Wongatha/Mirning man from the Goldfields in WA, encouraged people to take the time to celebrate Aboriginal culture and achievements.
“Family is at the heart of Aboriginal culture, and we always pay respect to our Elders, their achievements and how they have worked to sustain their families,” Daniel said.
“Elders are an important link to our country; we learn from them and pass on that knowledge to the next generation.
“All families, Indigenous and non-Indigenous, should celebrate their Elders. They continue to show us the way.”
FNE Director and CPC Chief Executive Officer Glen Weir said: “I share Daniel’s passion for family. With FNE we hope to bring positive, measurable change to the communities in which we live and work and through that support families to grow.”
